Welcome to le Vieux Moulin de Gassard
Picture of building showing side terrace Glynis & Adrian Griffiths

Having spent many holidays in France since 1983, two decades later we decided to take early retirement and we moved here in June 2003. Too young to retire totally, we decided to combine two of our hobbies, cooking and socialising, and we opened our home to Bed and Breakfast guests, with the option of our guests joining us for an evening meal.

Glynis enjoys receiving guests of all nationalities into our Chambres d’Hotês accommodation. She shares the cooking for the Tables d’Hotês, and her additional summer cooking job is the preparation of homemade jams that are served at breakfast. She also makes a walnut liqueur with walnuts from our own tree; this is often served as an aperitif to those guests who share an evening meal with us. Glynis is qualified as a Teacher of English as a Second Language (TEFL/TESL). We offer short breaks for guests who wish to learn English and whose partners may choose to come along for a holiday whilst they study. A keen gardener, Glynis is often still working in the peaceful gardens of Le Moulin when the sun has set. Although not fluent in French, Glynis speaks and understands the language and is happy to assist non-French speaking guests in any way possible.

Adrian is a keen cook, and he especially enjoys preparing pasta dishes and special salads made with vegetables from our organic vegetable garden. He spends many hours digging, planting and the best part, harvesting the products of his labour. Bed and breakfast guests who choose to eat an evening meal with us enjoy the fresh flavours of vegetables straight from the ground. One of Adrian’s favourite summer cookery tasks is the preparation of homemade chutneys. Adrian is learning to speak French and is making good progress, especially noticeable when he is out on his own buying wine at local vineyards to accompany our evening meals.

We are happy to share our experiences of buying a property and living in France with guests who are house hunting. We have excellent contacts for local craftsmen and artisans who we are happy to recommend, and our local knowledge may prove valuable. Having found their own dream property during their first visit to Le Vieux Moulin, guests have often stayed with us for a second or third time when they have returned to France to complete their purchase. We offer a ‘Check it Out’ service to guests who are not successful with their property search the first time around. If you decide this area is for you, once we understand exactly what you are looking for, we will take a quick look at any subsequent property you are interested in and feedback those all-important details that are not possible to glean from photographs. It may save you a wasted trip.
