Charming Bed and Breakfast Accommodation

A Warm and Friendly Welcome awaits You in our Beautiful Home
Le Vieux Moulin de Gassard is a tastefully restored former watermill, built with the local creamy-coloured stone. It is situated within the picturesque conservation hamlet of Vieux, in the area of the Tarn known as ‘The Golden Triangle’ of Albi, Gaillac and Cordes sur Ciel.
We extend a very warm welcome to guests who stay in our peaceful bed and breakfast accommodation in this historic corner of south west France. Our home has great charm, character and history, and is truly somewhere special to spend a reviving short break or a longer relaxing holiday. Many of our guests come to follow their own dream and spend time exploring the area and house hunting.
The mill lies in the Vere Valley and is surrounded by an unspoilt natural environment. Each season is different and brings it’s own delights. Spring is delightful with fresh green growth, early flowers and warm days. In early Summer, as guests sip aperitifs and enjoy their evening meal on the south-facing terrace, they gaze upon fields of golden sunflowers, ripening corn and maize. In the later summer months they watch magnificent sunsets when the sky turns red and the whole landscape is bathed in a rosy glow.
In early Autumn they may track the rise of the planets Venus and Mercury, and then watch the night-sky fill with twinkling stars. Owls hoot in nearby trees, and frogs can be heard croaking in our millstream and in the river Vere, just the other side of the field at the bottom of our garden.
The mill is cosy in Winter, with full central heating and a wonderful log fire. The days are often sunny, and although the weather can be cold, winter walks provide wonderful clear views, and from good vantage points the snow-capped Pyrenees can be seen in the far distance.
The guest bedrooms are filled with the early-morning sun and overlook the millstream, walnut tree and our vegetable plot, where we grow most of our own organic vegetables for the table. When the stream is full, pairs of wild ducks may also be seen effortlessly gliding along. Watch closely and you may see the cheeky red squirrels that enjoy the walnut harvest. We make our own walnut liqueur and walnuts often appear in our homemade salads.
We are only minutes from the prestigious AOC (Registered designation of origin) Gaillac Vineyards, originally founded by the Romans many centuries ago. There are around 150 to choose from, and we can organise wine-tasting excursions for you to our favourites.
